Qvar (Beclomethasone)

Common use

Qvar (beclomethasone dipropionate) is prescribed for long-term management of asthma. It helps reduce inflammation and swelling in the airways, improving breathing and preventing asthma attacks. It is not intended for sudden or severe asthma symptoms.

Dosage and direction

Qvar is taken by inhalation using an inhaler device or by pill, usually twice daily or as prescribed. Shake the inhaler, exhale fully, then inhale the medication deeply through the mouth. Rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent irritation or fungal infection. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions exactly.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of infections (viral, bacterial, or fungal), tuberculosis, glaucoma, cataracts, osteoporosis, or immune system problems. Do not use Qvar during an acute asthma attack. Long-term use may affect adrenal gland function or bone health.

Contraindications

Do not use Qvar if you are allergic to beclomethasone or any components of the inhaler. It is not suitable for relief of sudden breathing problems requiring a rescue inhaler.

Possible side effect

Common Qvar side effects include throat irritation, cough, hoarseness, dry mouth, and headache. More serious effects may include oral thrush, vision changes, worsening breathing problems, or allergic reactions. Seek medical help if severe or persistent symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Qvar may interact with immunosuppressants, antifungal medications, corticosteroids taken by mouth, and drugs that affect the immune system. Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, inhalers, and supplements you are using.

Missed dose

If you miss a Qvar dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.

Qvar Overdose

Overuse of Qvar may lead to symptoms of corticosteroid excess, including adrenal suppression, fatigue, or hormonal imbalance. Seek medical advice if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store the Qvar at room temperature away from heat, flames, and direct sunlight. Do not puncture or burn the canister. Keep out of reach of children.
