Common use of Dutasteride

Dutasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (technically a misnomer) or benign enlargement of the prostate (BEP). It refers to the increase in size of the prostate in men. Dutas decreases urinary retention, reduces the risk of needing surgery. Untreated BPH may contribute in prostate cancer.

Dosage and direction Precautions

Before taking Dutasteride, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are hypersensitive to the drug or to finasteride; or if you have any other food or drug allergies. This medication cannot be administered to women or children. Pregnant women should not handle this medication to avoid harm to the unborn baby. Notify your doctor if you had prostate cancer or liver disease in history. Do not interrupt treatment with this medication suddenly. It make take about 6 months to see if treatment with Dutasteride is beneficial.

Contraindactions

Dutasteride is contraindicated in patients who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to Avodart or other 5α-reductase inhibitors.

Possible side effect

Possible side effects are nausea diarrhea, or vomiting, jaundice, loss of appetite, a decrease in sex drive, breast enlargement or tenderness (gynecomastia), inability to have or maintain an erection, difficulty ejaculating, a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex. Missed dose

If you missed a Dutasteride dose take it as soon as you remember. If it almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular schedule. Never take double dose or extra dose of this medication.

Dutasteride Storage

Store Dutasteride tablets at room temperature between 20 and 25 C (68 and 77 F). Store away from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Do not let children to reach the medication.
